The famous Strait Link Burnie 10 will celebrate its 40th edition this Sunday 27th October.
Around 2500 entrants (entries are still open) are expected to line up across the three events, with the timetable being;
Runners and walkers will flock to the Burnie CBD on Sunday morning, many for the first time coming from Nepal, Germany, USA and the number 1 ranked male from Ireland. Read the elite field announcement article here.
While there are many first timers, there will be plenty in the Burnie 10 club who have participated 10 times. There will also be four special entrants who have done every edition. Keep an eye out for Gerard Leary, Ken Williams and twins Michael Bates and Maryann Murray. They’ll be donning a special 40th edition white top that simply reads ‘LEGEND’.
Adding to the celebrations will be the very first person to have crossed the finish line at the first event in 1985 Steve Moneghetti AM. ‘Mona’ will be the guest speaker at the official dinner tomorrow night at Communion, which will welcome 120 former committee members, volunteers, athletes, sponsors and current organisers.
Mona will then join Grant Penney in the commentary box for the livestream of the event on Sunday morning from 9:45am, which will be broadcast through the events Facebook page and YouTube channel.
The race will also host a number of Tasmanian championships. Results for all events and categories will be available here during the event.
Media are welcome to attend the dinner at Communion on Saturday night from 6pm, the event on Sunday morning and can use the broadcast shots from the stream. Images are also available on request.
